A Night at the Museum
The 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards returned to New York’s American Museum of Natural History on 3 November 2025, drawing designers, editors and celebrities beneath the museum’s iconic biology-hall ceiling. The gala, hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), celebrated the creative forces defining the future of American fashion.
Ralph Lauren’s Enduring Elegance
Taking centre stage was Ralph Lauren, who was awarded American Womenswear Designer of the Year.
From his beginnings in tailoring and neckties to his decades-long mastery of refined simplicity, Lauren continues to shape how the world sees American luxury. His recent collections, infused with sculpted suiting, soft neutrals and a nostalgic glamour, bridge heritage and modernity.
In his acceptance speech he reflected:
“American style isn’t about trends—it’s about spirit. It’s about the dream.”
Notable Nominees: Including Mike Amiri
While the winners took the spotlight, the nominations themselves provide a telling map of where American design is headed. One of the standout mentions is Mike Amiri — the designer behind the brand AMIRI — who was nominated in the Menswear category.
The Other Winners & Honourees
Other major honours of the night included:
Thom Browne – American Menswear Designer of the Year.
The Row (Ashley Olsen & Mary‑Kate Olsen) – Accessory Designer of the Year.
Ashlyn Park – Emerging Designer of the Year.
Honour awards:
Jerry Lorenzo (of Fear of God) received the “Innovation Award presented by Amazon Fashion”.
Others include Cynthia Rowley, Andre Walker, Ralph Rucci, Donatella Versace and Pieter Mulier.
A$AP Rocky: The New American Icon
The evening’s major highlight came when Anna Wintour presented A$AP Rocky with the Fashion Icon of the Year award.
Known for blending streetwear with high fashion, Rocky’s evolution as a style figure reflects the shifting boundaries of “American luxury.”
“Fashion is about courage… It’s about representing where you’re from—and where you’re going.”
A Celebration of American Fashion’s Future
The 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards reaffirmed the power of American fashion to evolve without losing its essence. Ralph Lauren’s win stands as a symbol of enduring excellence.
